Role Description

Xigent Solutions is seeking a network engineer to design, implement, configure, and support client network solutions, with a focus on Cisco, Meraki, Fortinet, and networking monitoring technologies. The ideal candidate will have strong networking fundamentals, excellent troubleshooting skills, and experience in a fast-paced, client-facing environment. Responsibilities include maintaining networks and systems, performing disaster recovery, securing data and hardware, and replacing faulty components. Proficiency in managing WAPs, firewalls, routers, switches, and controllers is essential, along with a solid understanding of network infrastructure and protocols. Responsibilities

Network Design & Implementation

1. Participate in the design and architecture of secure, scalable, and high-performing network solutions based on client requirements and best practices
2. Lead and execute the implementation of network projects, including routing, switching, wireless, and security deployments
3. Configure and deploy Cisco routers and switches (Catalyst, Nexus), Cisco Meraki switches, access points, and security appliances
4. Implement and manage Fortinet FortiGate firewalls, FortiSwitch, and FortiAP solutions

Network Operations & Support

1. Provide expert-level support for network infrastructure, troubleshooting complex issues related to routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), VLANs, VPNs (IPsec, SSL), QoS, and network security
2. Monitor network performance and proactively identify potential issues using tools like ThousandEyes
3. Utilize network monitoring solutions, like ThousandEyes, for advanced network path visibility, internet and SaaS application performance monitoring, and root cause analysis of external network issues
4. Respond to and resolve network incidents and service requests in a timely and efficient manner, adhering to SLAs
5. Perform regular network health checks, maintenance, and upgrades

Security & Compliance

1. Implement and enforce network security policies on Cisco, Meraki, and Fortinet platforms
2. Assist in vulnerability assessments and remediation efforts
3. Ensure network configurations comply with industry standards and client-specific requirements

Documentation & Best Practices

1. Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures
2. Develop and implement network best practices and operational guidelines

Client Engagement & Collaboration

1. Communicate effectively with clients to understand their needs, provide technical guidance, and explain complex solutions
2. Collaborate with internal sales, project management, and other technical teams to deliver integrated solutions
3. Provide mentorship and guidance to junior engineers when required

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities Required

Strong Expertise in Cisco Networking

1. Cisco routing and switching (CCNP level knowledge strongly preferred)
2. Experience with Cisco Meraki product suite (switches, access points, security appliances)

Proficiency with Fortinet Solutions

1. Hands-on experience with FortiGate firewalls (NSE4/NSE5 certification preferred)
2. Experience with FortiSwitch and FortiAP

Demonstrable Experience with Network Monitoring Solutions

1. Proficient in deploying and configuring networking monitoring solutions, like ThousandEyes
2. Aptitude and interest in learning about network monitoring solutions
3. In-depth knowledge of TCP/IP, routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, EIGRP), VLANs, VPNs, and network security concepts

Other Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience with wireless networking technologies
2. Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills
3. Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills
4. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously
5. Relevant industry certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCNA, Fortinet NSE 4/5/7, ThousandEyes Certified Professional) are highly desirable
6. Experience with scripting and automation (e.g., Python, Ansible) for network device configuration and management
7. Experience with other monitoring tools or SIEM platforms
8. Public cloud networking experience (AWS, Azure, GCP)
